PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, recommends, and coordinates mining and crushing process at all aggregate locations to maximize safety, production efficiency and cost effectiveness.  Determines methods to extract and process aggregate materials, considering factors such as safety, operational costs, deposit characteristics, overburden depth, and surrounding strata. Uses independent judgment in performing daily responsibilities.

The position will be located at the Hinkle Office in Stanton, KY and will support all Hinkle Aggregate operations throughout the state of Kentucky and the Hinkle locations in surrounding states of Tennessee, Virginia and South Carolina.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to providing engineering, planning, and other support as assigned to mining/quarry operations. The Mine Engineer will be primarily responsible for developing short and long range mine plans, mine design, working with operations to address immediate issues not anticipated by mine plan, maximize yield at lowest cost, and tracking progress against planned production. Additionally, develop production improvement projects, capital project planning and budgets, Champion the local SOCR initiative, design, procure and implement modifications to quarry systems, equipment, structures, processes and systems in alignment with and to functionally support Operations. The Mine Engineer has the organizational freedom and authority to develop and recommend for implementation continuous improvement projects and given the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity's relating to the quarry process, or to the quality system. The Mine Engineer has the authority to identify and the responsibility to record any problems related to the product, process or system and to recommend or provide solutions with support of Director of Mining Engineering. When solutions have been presented to and agreed to with Site management and are implemented, the Engineer has the responsibility to verify the implementation of those solutions. Domestic travel is required for the position, up to 20%.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Develops 1, 3 and 5 year mining plans for all Hinkle Aggregate facilities. Such plans will provide sufficient aggregate reserves for planned annual production volumes while balancing overburden removal volumes and haul routes / cycle times.
  • Schedules production in coordination with Area Manager to maximize safety, production efficiency and cost effectiveness in meeting customer demand.
  • Calculates Demand Forecasting to suggest plant production by mode to meet sales demand while minimizing products produced to lower overall inventory levels and minimize capped production.
  •  Provides a monthly detailed production schedule for the Area Manager indicating tons, specific products and the hourly schedule required to achieve the production schedule.
  • Participates in all plant operational assessments to improve production process and promote continuous improvement culture.      
  • Monitors sales activities for product sales.  Constantly monitors product quality and quantity required.
  • Participates in monthly financial reviews to better understand cost of production and identify and correct cost variances to budget.
  • Maintains daily contact with Area Managers regarding production status and daily activities. Provides daily updates to Aggregate General Manager highlighting areas of concern.
  •  Promotes and monitors compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Assist various Plant Managers / Foremen as needed with analysis of geology and mine planning.
  • Plan and oversee engineering aspects of mine development
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and AggFlow Plant Simulation software required.
  • Knowledge of all aggregate production operations including excavation, hauling, washing, crushing, etc. 
  • Working knowledge of plant equipment and mechanical maintenance for the equipment. 
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues. 
  • Ability to effectively monitor production operations and quickly detect and respond to operations problems. 
  • Understanding and ability to comply with safety regulations.
  • Work requires the ability to inspect all operations of the assigned location which may involve walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and being exposed to noise / dust and all weather conditions.
  • Basic surveying and mapping skills are required.
  • MSHA 40 hour certification required.
