PRIMARY FUNCTION:

We are seeking a qualified, safety minded, highly motivated individual to work as an intern who will gain an overall understanding of the major divisions of Hinkle Contracting Company, so that the intern can eventually be considered for a full time position within Hinkle Contracting Company. The selected candidate will be involved with and learn about various aspects of Hinkle Contracting Company. The focus of this intern will be Aggregates and Mining.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Requirements

  • Support the safety goals and processes of the company;
  • MSHA and OSHA training and regulations;
  • Operations Aggregates and Mining;
  • Spend time at our different quarry locations;
  • Learn aggregate production process to meet customer and internal demands and minimize capacity conflicts;
  • Understand compliance requirements for our operations to meet federal and state regulations including MSHA and OSHA etc.;
  • Quality Control/Quality Assurance Aggregates and Mining;
  • Gain an understanding of the QC/QA process and material testing procedures at Hinkle Contracting Company for aggregates;
  • Learn the material specification requirements our products are required to meet;
  • Understand how crew and scheduling efficiency is instrumental to achieve goals;
  • Learn how we manage contract backlog and the importance of long term planning;
  • Understand project profitability (revenue/costs);
  • Commercial Aggregates;
  • Learn the fundamentals of material pricing for aggregates;
  • Spend time at our different scale houses;
  • Learn to derive quantities from plans and how to accurately price products;
  • Managing customer issues;
  • Develop an understanding of Accounts Receivable, Billing, Safety, HR, Equipment and how they impact quarries;
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders at Hinkle Contracting Company;
  • Show a commitment to be visible and active in operations with your fellow employees;
  • Learn how to identify and resolve safety, personnel, and equipment/operational problems, in a timely and effective manner; and
  • In additional to learning these aspects, the selected candidate may be required to perform general laboring duties. This position will be based in Paris, KY but travel may be required throughout the State depending on the location of our jobs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ideal candidate must be currently enrolled in a college degree program and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better;
  • Typically apply in your Junior or Senior year of college
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organization levels, including senior management;
  • Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures;
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices;
  • Excellent communication skills and professional personal presentation;
  • Organizing; planning, and customer service orientation;
  • Great attention to detail and stress tolerance; and
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft products preferred.
