PRIMARY FUNCTION:

We are seeking a safety minded, qualified, self-motivated individual to be the Area Manager of specified Quarries throughout the region. The candidate's primary responsibility will be to direct the daily operations and workforce at the Quarries.  Daily responsibilities will include, but not be limited to; ensuring a safe work environment, prioritizing and scheduling projects while maintaining daily control of operations and staying on budget, optimizing production while minimizing costs, ensuring compliance with all facility permits and environmental regulations, overseeing all personnel and participating in selection/training/assignments at the facility, utilize computer and software systems for ongoing production and P&L analysis, and developing and strengthening relationships with subcontractors, state & federal agencies, and colleagues.  This position will report directly to the Vice President of Aggregates.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be committed to providing and promoting a safe work environment;
  • Previous supervisory experience;
  • Previous operational experience in a quarry;
  • Must have a working knowledge of all applicable regulations (including MSHA and OSHA) affecting crusher production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations;
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or Technical school; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Willingness to perform administrative duties such as timecard review and approval, progress postings (daily quantities) and keep a field journal;
  • The willingness to travel to other locations throughout Kentucky when needed;
  • Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights;
  • Manage administrative duties to include full detailed information (reports, status updates, etc.) meeting established deadlines and objectives;
  • Act in an ethical manner, portray a positive company image and promote customer relations;
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly reporting is accurate and timely;
  • Responsible for product quality. Responsible for meeting customer, agency and job specific specifications;
  • Responsible for setting, monitoring and communicating daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals for productivity, safety and compliance;
  • Communicate with employees, direct reports, supervisors, peers, customers and the general public in a professional manner;
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant;
  • A working knowledge of customer specifications required;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback;
  • Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate;
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary;
  • Conduct periodic forecast and maintain accurate inventory control;
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner;
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices;
  • High standard of ethics, integrity and trust;
  • Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours;
  • Must be able to work independently and with groups;
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors and general public at all times; 
  • Preparation of cost models for maintenance information for bidding;
  • Identify immediate areas of concern;
  • Identify trends in the data and develop responses to them;
  • Highly organized with strong time and process management skills; and
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The role will require knowledge of aggregates with at least 3 years of experience in the industry
  • Must be well versed in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check; 
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical; 
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
  • Report to work at the designated start time; 
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required;
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary; 
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements; 
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook; and
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
