Hinkle Contracting is seeking a qualified Staff Accountant. This position will play a significant role in the day to day functions of the Accounting department. This position will be located in the Lexington, KY office and will report directly to the Controller.


  • Financial and operational transaction processing in General Ledgers for business line operations;
  • Participate in accurate and timely closing of General Ledgers on a monthly basis;
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis;
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts with large transactional volumes;
  • Inventory controls and reconciliation;
  • Communicate/work with SSC functional areas and plants to research reconciling items;
  • Business line annual budget preparation;
  • Prepare and distribute reports and provide analysis/support as needed on a monthly basis;
  • Complete ad hoc projects;
  • Respond to questions and issues and communicate responses to operations and other functional areas;
  • Deliver results individually and as a key team member in a fast paced, high performance culture;
  • Identify process improvement opportunities;
  • Internal and external customer and market management;
  • Performance and result management;
  • Support for assigned business area;

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
  • CMA/CPA preferred but not required;
  • 1-5 years of experience preferred;
  • Understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles;
  • A proven track record in meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively as part of a team are essential;
  • Critical thinker, excellent analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to details;
  • Solid Excel skills;
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral, or diagram form;
  • Previous related experience in construction or manufacturing field is preferred; 
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors with other duties as required;
  • Be able to work overtime when required; 
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required;
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary; 
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements; 
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook; 
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical;
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
  • Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
